Bon Voyage Party: January 20, 2007
The weather the night of the party was terrible. It rained a lot. However, almost everyone we invited came and we were surprised and delighted. Phil’s son, Jeff, came from Forney, Texas and my daughter, Lauri and her friend, Jeff Zaruba, braved the rain and came. Jeff Z.’s daughter, Heather, represented “the Cousins”, who are my grand daughters and we were so glad that she was there. It was a fun evening with old friends and new.
We had a lot of help, getting ready for the party. Our friend, Cristina Kemper, helped me get the club room of the marina ready and made a cookbook/scrapbook for us. Phil and Jerry Kemper were working all the time also, setting up tables, getting the drinks, etc. We want to thank so many people for helping us get this trip off the ground, so to speak! Jim Monahan worked so many hours on our boat with Phil, doing so many things I could not begin to name them.

Before we began this great adventure, we decided to
have a Bon Voyage Party to say farewell to our friends.
We wanted to keep it simple because, at the time we
planned it, we expected to be leaving the day after the
party. We decided on a casual covered dish supper
with our excellent chef guests, bringing dishes that
would be easy to prepare on the boat AND the recipes.
We would provide the drinks and we thought the party
was set.
Phil went to get a hair cut from Shawn
Marie and remembered that the
husband of the woman (Shirley) who
works at Razz-Ma-Tazz Salon plays the
guitar and sings. Steve always said if
we ever made this trip, he would play
at our going away party! So now the
party was set, music and all! He did
play and did an excellent job.
Scott Anderson did beautiful work inside, building a new
set of stairs from the salon to the galley, laminating the
galley cabinet and sink back splash, building the shelf for
the microwave
and on and on. Other people have given us ideas,
encouragement and courage. It is a great adventure and
has been a dream of Phil’s for a long time. Now, with
some help from our friends and family, we are finally
going to realize that dream!
